Since my Broken Earth game is now at the point where people are starting to use horses, I want to add a rule to my encumbrance related to houserule file so that it implement's the thing Clint apparently suggested some time back where larger creatures get more capability here (basically doubling the encumbrance for each Size step up).
I could probably muddle though this myself (I already have a thing that ups everyone's encumbrance somewhat because I think the standard rules in this regard are overly punishing), but I'm not clear how to set up the syntax with the Size value (or even where its stored). Anyone care to enlighten me? |

No suggestions, huh? I can replace the various Size mods on the horses if it comes to it, but it seems like there should be some kind of if-then syntax to have something look for the Size adds (which I realize are just separate Racial Abilities, but I'd think you could do a text search for those with "size" on them or something).

Honestly my group either just checks the ignore encumbrance penalties box (because I agree they are a bit harsher than I think they should be) or we make judicious use of containers and putting things "on the ground" in Hero Lab to push those penalties around, so I've never had a need to look at those kinds of changes. I'm not really even sure how to set something like that up, but that's not to say it isn't possible.
The Brawny Edge modifies how much you can carry, so maybe figuring out how to read Size to make that kind of modifier would work. Yes, take a look at the Brawny Edge. I can also send you the Star Wars file, where there are a couple of Racial Abilities that play with that number a bit.

Well, I've already adjusted general Encumbrance; that part is actually pretty easy. It was the large-critter encumbrance which I don't know how to address generically (because the suggested fix turns on Size). Normally I wouldn't even care, but one of my players has a warhorse, so having the results be correct so they could use it in play would be nice.
I'll probably just do a custom preclude and replace for the warhorse and call it good. Its just my OCD wanting to do the general case. Edit: Just in case anyone is curious, I just went into my Increased Encumbrance .user file and added a series of Racial Abilities to go with each Size; since you can select additional Abilities for Creatures, the players just need to go in and select the appropriate one for their Size of mount, and it adjusts Encumbrance accordingly. Slightly kludgy perhaps, but it works and doesn't require changing anything outside of that file. Last edited by Paragon; July 19th, 2017 at 08:04 AM. |
