I know this is a total noob question, but I just dinged level 6 on my paladin and I can now choose between Single Melee (currently 1d20 +10) or Full Melee (1d20 +10; 1d20 + 5) when rolling to hit.
I have been reading and reading and reading and so far can not find any reference to this either in the book or on the webs. Is this a Hero Lab thing? I've only got one longsword - so it's not a dual wield thing. Any assistance greatly appreciated. |

Core rulebook, pg 11:
"Base Attack Bonus (BAB): Each creature has a base attack bonus and it represents its skill in combat. As a character gains levels or Hit Dice, his base attack bonus improves. When a creature’s base attack bonus reaches +6, +11, or +16, he receives an additional attack in combat when he takes a full-attack action (which is one type of full-round action— see Chapter 8)." |

I'm assuming this is for your iPad?
Check here... Paladin PFSRD Notice that at level 6 you gain a second attack when making a full attack. Level 6 Base Attack Bonus for a Paladin is +6/+1. So your paladin must have +4 to attack coming from STR mod, and/or weapon focus, etc., this will give you your +10/+5 that you are seeing for your Full Melee (1d20 +10; 1d20 +5). The iPad is giving you the option of a Standard Action: Single Melee attack at +10, or a Full Round Action: Full Melee attack at +10/+5 So yes, it is a Hero Lab thing... but it's a good thing! Hope that helps. ***edit: Ninja'd!!! So, let me understand.
This is something that happens as you level, and it effectively means you can hit multiple times in a single round (of course, the 2nd one is less likely to hit). If this is so, why would you ever just do the Single melee? Also, is there any penalty if your first one misses, but second one hits? Thanks for your help with this. |

There isn't any penalty to the second and subsequent attacks, but you have to make a full attack action to get them. "Full attack" is a full round action, so you don't always have the option to make a full attack. For example if you use a move action (like moving more than 5 ft, drawing a weapon, standing up from prone, etc) you only have a standard action remaining and cannot full attack. In such a situation you can still use your standard action to make a single attack.
