I was just wondering how long it takes to create a data file for a non-SRD character class, both experienced and new.

Also, is it possible to import things like spells from a database?

As an experienced data file author, ~2 hours for a new class, only half an hour if I hadn't written descriptions and coded in some of the programming bits to improve the way everything displays and make the class abilities affect the character's stats when activated.

If you can write a converter program (I haven't yet, but I know I could do so using Word's mail merge function drawing from an excel file), you can create the raw XML of a HeroLab file.

Creating a character with it and looking through the abilities is the best way I've found.
