You are mistaken here, I think. While old versions of MRP'd cards should
have the text *as printed* in their description, so as not to confuse
somebody checking with the actual card (this was discussed while first
putting together the files), any stats or otherwise game affecting
changes should be taken into account in CV.

So, for instance, AoD Togashi Kokujin should appear with the original
name, and the original "unaligned" description. However, he should have
the 'Dragon' faction, the 'Hitomi' trait, etc... because the MRP causes
it to 'inherit' those changes. Of course a Note should explain the
reason behind such critical changes between the actual card text and
it's game stats. But doing otherwise you would be seriously impairing CV
as a decbuilding tool.

Such critical changes have happened to relatively few cards over time,
most of them in basic sets. The above was from Jade, but it seems that
Diamond includes quite a few critical changes too. I wonder if it would
be possible to add a 'see MRP' button or link in the card details window
that would send you directly to the card details window of the most
recent printing of the card instead. This would save much explaining in
the Notes section and would affect all games where a MRP or similar
policy is enforced by the publisher (that is, most of them).

Is that doable? And in an automated way that wouldn't require file
authors to manually need to change those links every time a new printing
comes? Togashi Kokujin / Hitomi Kokujin are one time occurrences, but
some basic cards (like Block Supply Lines) are reprinted over and over,
sometimes with minute (but significant) wording changes.

Even better, I suggest that the card details window should automatically
list all printings of the card, with a link to the correponding card
details window of each printing, in a MRP descending order (from most
recent to oldest). So, if you checked the card details of Togashi
Kokujin, you'd have something like:

"Printings: Jade Edition, Anvil of Despair"

And you could click on the first (the MRP) and see the newest and
accurate wording of the card.

Of course, for cards like Block Supply Lines (possibly this card has
been reprinted in every expansion) the list would be really long. So I
forward another, related suggestion:

Release/Set name: short version vs long version

I know the Buffy files have got this, and I suggest that the L5R files
get it too. You have got the sets "Pergamum Prophecy", "Angel's Curse",
or "Class of '99", however, when you chose them for the Display Columns,
they appear as PP, AC, and C99. I find it better because I can see
clearly which set the cards belong to, and I have room for more useful
information too.

For L5R 'Episodes' I suggest the following (these are the acronyms most
widely used, even by the company):

DE - Diamond Edition
WoC - Winds of Change
H&E - Heaven and Earth
FOU - Fall of Otosan Uchi
KYD - 1,000 Years of Darkness
BB - Broken Blades
DA - Dark Allies
AOF - An Oni's Fury
APC - A Perfect Cut
GE - Gold Edition
SW - The Spirit Wars
HoR - Heroes of Rokugan
SotE - Soul of the Empire
SMP - Storms over Matsu Palace
F&S - Fire and Shadow
AD - Ambition's Debt
HB - Honor Bound
SSM - Siege of Sleeping Mountain
PE - Pearl Edition
DJH - Hidden Emperor: The Dark Journey Home
HE6 - Hidden Emperor, Episode 6
...
HE1 - Hidden Emperor, Episode 1
JE - Jade Edition
SCC3 - Scorpion Clan Coup 3
...
TotV - Time of the Void
OE - Obsidian Edition
***NOTE: Switch the MRP order of these two. Even if TotV and OE came out
almost simultaneousely, it was ruled that for MRP purposes OE was later.
C&J - Crimson & Jade
AoD - Anvil of Despair
BBP - Battle of Beiden Pass
EE - Emerald Edition
FK - Forbidden Knowledge
SL - Shadowlands
IE - Imperial Edition
PI - Pre-Imperial decks (it appears as preview cards)

Another note, relating to Promos. A few promos come fortunately related
to a release, so they are in that release, but most of them don't so
they have been thrown into a wide promo category, like 'pre-Gold
promotionals' or 'Promotionals' (I suggest changing this to Gold-era
promotionals, btw) of these, there are a few coming, like 'Tetsubo of
Thunder', 'Helm of Thunder', 'Taking Credit", "Crippling Blow" which
aren't clearly linked to any release either.

However, there are a few that do and I suggest that, when they are
added, they are grouped as 'Clan Rivals promos' release, which should go
just between WoC and DE. For the moment, they are:

***all foil only version
new cards: (Diamond/Gold legal)
Hida Sadaharu
Isawa Mino
Tamori Shiki
Yoritomo Rui
foil reprints:
Barbican
Cascading Fire
The Damned
The Fury of Osano-Wo
Nemesis
Occult Murders
Ono
Recruiting Drive
Shiba Technique
Tsuruchi Technique
Untested Troops

Well, thats enough rambling for today. I hope you find something useful
here,
-Ramon

This is why I had notes for older cards telling the user which card was the MRP
of that card. If you had "Merge Duplicates" turned on, you don't see the note,
but if you filter out the MRP or do not use the merge function, the user would
see the note indicating that another card was the MRP of that card.

I like your MRP-link-buttons idea, however. Very cool.

As a deckbuilding tool, Merge Duplicates already does this.
Hardcoding the MRP into the AoD version of Kokujin just makes him
harder to find in inventory managament, since the unaligned
Shadowlands personality ("says so right on the card") gets sorted in
with the Dragons. This is, of course, my own anal retentive opinion.

Mostly to "Soul of..." personalities, which isn't as much of a bother
as the Jade storyline MRPs, since they are truely seperate cards.

While I find this interesting, I won't hold my breath considering the
workload the Rob is drowning under.

I agree wholeheartedly with that list. Spot on.

Again, spot on. I could probably divvy up the promos into better
groups than "Pre-Gold" and "Gold", but I'll wait until Rob as the L5R
file settled, 1.3 done, and Warlord automated. The ironic part is
that if Rob did Warlord first, he probably would have knocked it out
of the park on the first try, and then he'd only have L5R and 1.3 to
rassle with.

A complete list of the various versions of a card, including the MRP, can
already be displayed within CV. It's included as a debugging feature to
help out authors trying to make sure all the MRP stuff is working
correctly, but you can easily use it if you wish. Under Settings, go to the
Development & Debugging menu, then check Enable Data File Debugging. Then
right-click on a card and select the Show All MRP Links for Card menu item.
You now have a list of all MRPs for the card, including the MRP "rating".
The highest MRP rating is the most recent printing.

Hope this helps,
Rob

This option is great! I'll have it active from now on. I'd suggest you
to make it look prettier and add it to the bottom "Card details" window,
and set it so that you can click on every link to jump to the specified
version. This would be really useful for the end user.

I've added this to the todo list. It won't make it into V1.3, but it is
definitely on the list.
