I'll leave your first question for the Lone Wolf guys, but as for distinguishing early-set Magic cards, it's like this:
Alpha and Beta have black borders, Unlimited and Revised have White borders. Alpha cards have very rounded corners when compared to Beta cards, while Beta cards of course have less rounded corners. Unlimited Cards tend to be brighter (in coloration) than Revised cards, though is is not neccesarrily true, although most people go by this alone. The best way to tell if a card is Revised or Unlimited is by checking for a "beveled edge" on the edge of the color where it meets the white border. It's much like the little beveled edge on fourth edition cards that resembles a sort of double line. Also, you might want to know that there was a set known as Cronicles that reprinted many cards from previous expansions. These can be distinguished by their white border AND the expansion symbol from Arabian Nights, Legends, Antiquities, or The Dark. An yes, 4th and 5th Edition cards can be distinguished by their copyright dates (1995 and 1997, respectively), while of Alpha, Beta, Unlimited, and Revised, none have copyright dates printed on them. The small differences between Alpha and Beta and between Unlimited and Revised are very hard to describe, and something you should definitely see for yourself with each compared to the others. I suggest picking up the Magic: The Gathering Official Encyclopedia volume 1 available at many bookstores. Be sure to ask, because if they don't already have it, they can often order it for you. --Kyle Turner emperor799@bellsouth.net "We'll put that in your biography. Is there an option to merge two inventories of the same game? If not, is it possible to merge the inventories manually, by copying and pasting? This is kind of an off-topic question. Say somebody holds an old Magic card with no expansion symbol in front of you. How can you tell if it's from Alpha, Beta, Unlimited, or Revised? I assume 4th and 5th edition cards can be identified by their copyright dates. Thanks in advance! BL Alien [Non-text portions of this message have been removed] ------------------------ Yahoo!
