the Razorback lets me put 10 Marines in. it should be 6.

Please read your codex, There is NO squad size requirement to take a Razor Back in the newer marine codex's. You just can't embark the squad in the transport until it is at the 'correct' size.

At the same time a razorback can only hold 6 marines in any case though

Right. In most recent codecies, oversized units can buy the transport. They cannot ride in it but could use it as cover or just treat them as totally separate units. They could fit in after some casualties or if you are eligible to combat squad them.
