+1 most definitely. Drag and drop should be enabled over all the group lists.

This has been on my list for a while now, so we definitely want to do something like this.
For those of you who posted in this thread, would you prefer "hot" drag and drop, or toggling a mode in which drag and drop is possible? If drag and drop is always active, you can end up accidentally messing with your hierarchy when you didn't intend to. This can be acceptable though, as drag and drop is always enabled in Windows File Explorer for example. |

Much prefer being able to disable it. I still accidentally drag a folder into another one once in a while, which can be very annoying if you're not paying attention.
(The one I dislike the most, though, is drag and drop text editing. So easy to accidentally rearrange text. Thankfully most apps with it also have good undo support, but even so it's annoying to be jarred out of what you were doing and have to go fix it and make sure everything is OK before continuing when all you wanted to do was select something.) As long as it is a gobal-ish setting "D&D On/Off" vs. something that has to be toggled for each item/grouping/window/tab/etc. You can please both types of users.

Without some sort of Undo feature, I think making this optional would be the way to go.
