Versatile

I am creating a basic 4th edition fighter with a versatile weapon(longsword) but the versatile bonus does not seem to be showing up.

The weapon is equipped as using both hands but the bonus is not there.

The character has a strength of 16(for a bonus of +3) so the damage bonus should be +4.

Is this not supposed to be included or am I doing something wrong?

Ok I have a very basic layout going (no race not all attributes ect) STR 16 class Fighter equiped Long sword (both mina hand and both hands) and it does not add in the bonus for using the (Versatile keyword) plus 1 to damage.
It would seem that versatile shows up in the keyword description area but does not change a mechanic any place.
