I made a new Class and want to add it to Hero Lab. The last time I tried I wound up breaking an existing character and having to delete my efforts to restore the character. Can someone tell me how to build the class in Hero Lab? For reference, it is the Arachnified class that I just published to the DMs Guild.

Creating a class is one of the toughest tasks to tackle if you're not very familiar with the editor. I think daplunk might have a video or two on youtube to help. Check his signature for a link to his youtube channels.

One thing you can do is to try and copy an existing class or open up one of the community files and slowly pick it apart to learn more. The UA - Artificer and UA - Ranger files have a full class build in them for a base class. The PHB - Classes files have subclasses as examples of when you get to that part.

In my experiences, the editor likes to crash when you're working on a full class and base class abilities, so working on a class can sometimes be frustrating. You need to be prepared to reload the game system whenever you add new abilities.

Can you describe what exactly you mean by "crash" here? I have been trying to narrow down a bug in the editor for over a year now. The issue tends to be is its random when it happens.

If you can provide more details I would appreciate it. If its the same issue I can try duplicating it in the 5e system and maybe get lucky. Until I can consistently recreate the issue I am not sure LW can fix it.

I can't replicate it all the time but the only time I do crash is when I'm mucking with a new class (not subclass or archetype, an actual class).

I'll create a new class for 5e and let HL reload the system. I'll make a change to either the multiclass script or add/remove proficiencies or special abilities and then hit Test Now. A little under half the time I'll get an error about attempting to focus on a non-existant pick. Usually after I hit OK HL will lock up and crash. Other times things are OK for a few minutes and then I'll get an error screen with a memory read violation. I've sent a ticket into HL with the latest dmp file but this is the error at the bottom of the message.

C:\Program Files (x86)\Hero Lab\HeroLab.exe 8.4b 743

major: 10, minor: 0, build: 16299, platform: 2, version: , spmaj: 0, spmin: 0, suitemask: 00000300, type: 1
ACCESS VIOLATION
Address: 0x00546a24
Type: bad read

FYI: This happens if even if I don't have the Community files loaded - so I don't think it's related to anything in those files.
