I am creating a NPC Race for 5e. For hit dice I put in:
Hit dice: 9 Override Hit Dice Type: 6 (its a medium creature using d6 instead of d8) Default Starting HP: 49 When I save this and try to use the Race in HL, it shows the HP as 58 instead of 49. Why is this? No mater what I change the Default Starting HP to it does not reflect this in HL. Why is this? How do I fix it? Thanks. |

Do you have the configure your hero option set to "use Max HP"?

Or does the NPC race have a CON of 12, so granting +1 per HD?

It has a +3 from con. I am trying to have it by 49 after con modifier. It is a CR4 creature. 58 would be the correct amount of HP based on the formula but I am trying to override that.

I am trying to enter data from a module. I think the author may have messed up on something. Either the constitution should have be 14 or 15 to give a +2 per level or the HP should have been 58. He likely changed the Con and forgot to change the HP or he changed the HP and forgot to change the con. With a +2 Con modifier you would end up with 49 HP.

Are you working with a saved test character that you reload after each change in the editor? The "default starting hp" on a race is only set as the initial value when a race is first being added, so editor changes won't alter a saved character where the race has already been added. Once the race has been added, the GM is allowed to adjust the hp from there, so only the current value is stored in the saved portfolio, and that current value doesn't get changed, since HL doesn't know if the current value is based on the original default, or that the user has decided to change it.
They're referring to the configure hero settings (which you can re-open from the Character menu) - HP options section, "Max HP at New Levels". For a race, the "default starting hp" that's set in the editor is the total rolled on the dice for the creature's HD, before constitution, and before any other hp bonuses. |
