I remember way back in the days of innocence when I bought my first D&D3e Player's Handbook that it had a disk in a cover-mounted insert that had character creation software on it. Now I can't remember anymore if WotC actually developed that, or if it was a third-party that got officially tapped by WotC to do it for them, but something like this should definitely be brainstormed by Paizo heads.

I'm not saying give out a free license or anything, but at the back of the book throw in a page that details herolab, its functionality, and offers shots of the UI. Something like this would get LW huge business in my opinion, and Paizo would see a huge benefit in having such a dedicated partner.

The main reason I say that this kind of 'prize in the cereal' approach would be good is that I searched for a good while to find a decent Pathfinder character generator, and I skipped over HLC quite a few times because of the UI in spite of the fact that plenty of people on forums/reddit had mentioned how it was invaluable to them. I did eventually give it a shot and have loved it enough to spend quite a penny or two on it. But it took years for LW to grab me as a customer. Years. That is a lot of lost revenue. That's a lot of time that I wasn't out there spreading the word to other GMs or players.

All of this being said, it's clear that I would love to see an officially endorsed partnership between Paizo and LW. It can mean nothing bad for the Pathfinder community, and I'm all for that.

Now the only issues with this would then be that (HLO at least) would become Paizo's proprietary platform, and LW could then not develop things for WotC products on it (or at least Paizo would be smart to include a stipulation like this.)

My two coppers.
Just FYI that the only difference between what your saying and what is currently happening is the advertisement in books. Paizo will not do that for anyone but their own products. But Paizo and LW have an official and very strong partnership.

3PP and other products are highlighted on the Paizo Blog including HL and RW. HL is used internally by Paizo developers to create statblocks for books. Its talked about everywhere as the go to Pathfinder character creation software and has an official Pathfinder license hence the reason it has an official Pathfinder image.

Guess I don't see "its advertised in the back of a book" as any type of game changer in the year 2018.... Or I am totally confused on what your saying...

I would NOT want Paizo to 'officialize' any given 3rd party product, for fear it would discourage development of other alternatives. Leaving the landscape open makes for better products for all.

As an example, I fully expect a large number of pf2e character generators to come about in the next year or two - and based on the number of people who dislike HLO's model, I can see a number of them doing just fine.

Just wanted to jump on this thread and cast the votes of the 10+ people I play with who use Herolab classic for pf1e. Specifically we ask that you please bring pf2e to herolab classic. Please charge us more per data package as a subscription based model is dead on arrival for us. So is an online only solution like HLO as we frequently have internet issues. If Pf2e/starfinder were both in herolab classic you'd have all of our money for many more years to come.

You mean like the huge amount of generators that came out for Pathfinder Version 1?

Not going to happen. With the reduced staff they have, no further work is going to be put in to Herolab Classic other than bugfixes for the next year or so. Classic is at pretty much end of life.

This also allows them to not have to worry further MacOS and IOS support since they'll just be supporting one platform... the web.

Again please do not spread false information as if it was fact. You can say “I think that this wont be supported.” But it’s NOT been said by LW and based on how long they are still supporting Army builder your statement is totally incorrect.

On top of this the CORE engine of HLO is exactly the same as HLC. This means as was recently done with Unique ID’s, HLC gets the same Improvment as HLO does. So again what LW is actually doing contradicts what you are saying.

Our group thinks alike. we wont be using HLO for any product. if HLC wont support PF2 we will find other solutions. Even Excel sheets will be better than HLO.

I do hope that HL will continue investing in HLC. I must say that since HLO I sense that there wont be any further development in new materials to the HLC, and thus, I am looking for another software. thanks for 15 years of fun playing, but it seems our paths must separate.

Have any members had trouble logging into the store recently. I sent herolab a email about my problem. Just wanted to know if anyone else had any issues. I am planning on buying HLO as soon as the store will let me. I wish PF2 was avaible on HLC.
