So, next question
I'm trying to make something Gurps-ish while learning the authoring kit. I'm on the derived traits, namely Speed. That particular trait uses decimals, but I can't get HL to give me the correct output. I understand that it's stored as a floating number "behind the scenes", but the output is rounded to integers. It seems I can set the field attribute "decimals" to 2 to get the correct output. However, I only want 2 decimals on that particular trait. Do I have to create a new comp for that single trait, or can I somehow override that attribute in the things-declaration (where I declare the actual Speed trait)? /McWolfe |

Yes - whether to use decimals or not is an on/off decision for a field, so you'll need different fields if you want to display one value with decimals and another value without.
You could create a decimal value field to add to the fields that are already there, and then in your visual elements, direct your portals to display different fields depending on what you use. But on the other hand, if leaving speed as a derived attribute doesn't make sense for your game system, then don't leave it there - create a new Speed compset. The skeleton files are just one solution to choice of what components and compsets are required, and each game system needs to revisit that question based on its own needs. |
