I was creating a character, who I had levelled up but was far from finishing, when I decided it was time to create a data file for a prestege class he had that was non-core D20.
I followed the advice in the manual for creating classes and got a helper and level object compiled as guided, and then I spliced them in. On returning to the main screen, I decided to save my new PC, having not done so yet, and when I tried to save him the program crashed. Unfortunatly, the file I was told to look at (D:\Documents and Settings\Ben Turner\Local Settings\Temp\lwderror1840.txt) was not present in my Temp folder. Infact no new files were written there at all. So two problems here, firstly the crash, and secondly the lack of stack trace or logging for me to send you guys ! |

The crash is something we haven't encountered before. Did it crash before or after you specified a filename for the saved file? I'm also not sure how you could have got the message telling you to look for a file, but without the file being there. You aren't running windows vista or anything, are you? I know that does some funky things with file paths, so I'd like to rule that out first. Nope, plain ol' XP install here. It happened once I had chosen a name for my file (I think...)
After a reboot, everything was fine. I've found a few times that if I modify a data file in the editor, compile then try to splice and it tells me I have the data set open, so I open a different portfolio and splice the changes, then when I open up the original portfolio it gets confused often, citing problems with rouge class abilities (not something I was modifying, but something my character had) before bombing out to a C++ runtime error sometimes. I'd guess it's a stability problem with modifying data sets and bringing up characters already using elements of that data set, although after a reboot these problems go away, so I've got a reasonable workaround for now. |

Hmm. I'll look into this and see if I can reproduce the problem. In the meantime, if you get any more crashes, please let us know more details - knowing where the crash specifically happens (or even what kind of thing you were splicing, etc) would be helpful in tracking this down.
