Magic: The Gathering, Saviors of Kamigawa data

jfarnworth

New member
Any sort of update on this? It's been out for weeks and I have been checking every day to see if the new data file has come accorss yet.

We're currently working on getting the data for this set from Wizards of
the Coast. They haven't posted a full spoiler list on their site yet, so
we're navigating their organization to get the data directly. We hope to
have the data in hand very soon, and once we do we'll get it turned around
as fast as we can.

Thanks,
Brian

Saviors (and all magic) spoilers

Try http://gatherer.wizards.com

Leave the first two columns blank,

In the third column, in the top box, choose the name of the set you need a spoiler for .
Leave the lower box of the third column blank.

In the fourth column select "text spoiler view" where it says select output type.

Click the button in the "go" column - it will generate a spoiler of the set for you.

Doesn't list artist or card number in that view, but gives you everything else you'd need. Other views can be set that will give you that info as well.

gatherer.wizards.com is clearly public-accessible. There's links to it all over www.magicthegathering.com. Should be safe to use for data files.

Looking forward to the saviors data file being ready.

Hows the status of this data file coming? I am also waiting for the data file to include 9th edition.. got 2 full booster boxes to input to card valut and would like to get caught up.

I only ask because I've searched the net and other CCG deck builders, etc already have the data files built for Saviors and for 9th Edition for their customers.

We are still working to get files from WotC. Their last communication with
us indicated that it could be as late as early next week before we see data
from them. Since this is a new data exchange process for us and for them,
we are anticipating some extra coding time to deal with whatever format
they give us for the data.

Despite the delays for these two sets, once we get this sorted out for
Saviors and 9th, the payoff should be much more timely Magic data files
going forward. Thanks for bearing with us as we get things hashed out.

Another deadline slipped ...

My CV license has expired, and I have no plans to renew it until Saviors and 9th Edition are online.

I've noticed a lot of army builder updates.... Where are we on this data file guys? Almost 2 weeks later of 9th edition has came out. Others have aready updated their data files, why is it so slow for card vault? It seems as it is not as important as army builder from the progress of the programs and data files so far...

I dont know why the excuse is with Wotc, when other people already have their data files completed...

We've been working with Wizards of the Coast for the better part of two
months, trying to secure data for Saviors and 9th Edition that is in a
usable format for us to convert to a Card Vault data file. Unfortunately,
after multiple inquiries made to a number of WotC staffers, the best they
could come up with after two months was the same data that is available on
Gatherer. Gatherer currently supplies the data we need across several
different spoiler lists, none of which are suitable for this task. Until we
have assurance from WotC that we will be able to receive a single, usable,
consistent source of data on a timely basis, we cannot move forward on the
development of data files for Magic: the Gathering.

We are as dissatisfied as you and other CV users with the current state of
affairs, and we continue to work with WotC to obtain all the data we need
to build the data file. As soon as the situation changes, we will not
hesitate to post an update to this forum.

I appreciate the difficulties you appear to be having with Wizards. However
is there any way there can be some form of update for the Magic files - even
if this is an intermediate update without some of the detail.

I play in a lot of Magic tournaments and have successfully used Card Vault
in the past to keep track of new decks and versions/tweaks to existing
decks. For the Kamigawa block constructed season I have had to revert to
manual processes due to the lack of timely Saviours data. This has not been
an enjoyable experience.

Reading between the lines of your latest message, I am now concerned that
updates are going to be late or non-existent in the short/ medium term. I am
now seriously looking at other alternatives as I do not like the thought of
utilising a manual deck development process, for the new standard format,
when Ravnica comes out (in preparation for Champs). I am also not sure how
much longer I can manually manage my inventory - I now have two sets being
maintained separately on spreadsheets (SoK and 9th).

Whilst I realise Magic is not the only CCG that Card Vault supports, it must
be one of the more popular. I am in a quandary - as I have been a long time
supporter of your excellent product - but now I cannot use it to support my
Magic playing. I am reasonably sure that there are similar people in the
same position (please speak up in this forum if so!).

If you can do anything to provide even basic listings for the two
outstanding sets it will be appreciated. I understand that the problem is
not necessarily one of your own making - but it is having a negative impact
on some of your customers.

Regards
K

I am in the same situation.. Thats why I have been so active in this thread.... I purchased the software a few months ago, have spent several long day and nights inputting all of my cards and now stopped at saviors and 9th. I have the cards seperated for now, but I can not add them to my collection right now otherwise I would throw off my inventory, and decks, since I would have half electronic and half not since the data files are not ready. I too understand that MtG isnt the sole purpose of CV, but im sure its one of the most used databases.

Is WolfLair.com going to offer some sort of incentive to keep customers or anything since as previously posted the data files are going to take a lot longer to be released? I ask because people purchase their software, then a new deck or 2 come out and not its really "not supported" yet... where the user could of bought some other ccg software that is current.

Sorry, Im just fustrated, I have several boxes of cards to add, but cant since no data is availible yet.

Just for the record, we've been tearing our hair out on this end, too. :-) :-(

We just got back from GenCon late last night, and here's the update from the show. We spoke with Joe Hauck, who is the VP overseeing Magic. He stepped in and orchestrated things at the show in an effort to get things squared away for us. At this point, we supposedly should be seeing the complete data we need late this week or early next week. Everybody is in catch-up mode after the show, so it's not something that Wizards can get us overnight, but it shouldn't take too long now. Assuming we get the data, we'll get the data files updated within a few days of receiving it. The exact time depends on how differently the data is formatted from the way we used to get it (i.e. how much of a rewrite we need to do on the converter).

If we DON'T get the data in timely fashion, then we'll put together an incomplete, stop-gap set of files from the data we do have. This will at least get everybody something they can work with until we get this sorted out. Since that's a bunch of throw-away work I'd rather avoid, this won't be done unless Wizards falls through again. I'm keeping my fingers crossed that having Joe step in will clear up issues quickly.

Thanks again for everyone's patience. I'm really sorry that this has happened, but we've been doing our best to get things sorted out and we unfortunately don't have control over anything at Wizards.

Thanks, Rob

Data Files?

I would like to know if cardvault will be supporting Saviors of Kamigawa and 9th edition any time soon. The next block of cards is about to come out this month and now I'm already 2 sets behind in files. My license expire this month also, if the new data files are not out by then why should I bother tro renew my license? If there is any thing that I could do to help please feel free to let me know. I would like atleast a minor data file of card name and the basics.

Just after GenCon, we finally received data for both Saviors and 9th
Edition from Wizards of the Coast. We expect to have data files up for both
sets very soon, and in advance of Ravnica. We expect to be able to get
Ravnica data up on or immediately after the release date, but again that
will be dependent on how soon we can get data from WotC. Our hope is that
now that we've ironed out the kinks with Saviors and 9th, we'll have a
workable standard process that will get information to us and thus to you
in a much more timely fashion.

Thanks for hanging with us on this one. We appreciate your patience, and
your continued support for Card Vault.

Brian omitted a few imprtant details that impact how quickly we get the Magic data files updated. First, the data we received the first time was not complete, so we had to wait until this past week for them to get us complete data. More importantly, the data we're now receiving uses a COMPLETELY different format from the way we got it before. This means that we have to write a completely new converter to transform the new data format to the proper format needed by CV - it's NOT just a modification to the existing converter. So it's not something we can do instantly, but we'll do our best to get it done as quickly as practical.

Thanks, Rob
