I acquired a pretty unusual magic item: a +4 darkwood human-slaying arrow. Right now, there’s no way to create a custom item that’s both an arrow of slaying and made of darkwood, though it’s technically possible under the SRD rules. Is there a way to do that using HeroLab?

Is there a way to do that using HeroLab? I don't think "Slaying" is a standard magic item power, is it? There's the "Arrow of Slaying", but that's a specific magic item. If you wanted to create a +4 Darkwood Arrow of Slaying, you would have to use the editor to add a "Slaying" Item Power with the "Uses Custom Text" flag set. If you need help working out how to do that, let me know and I'll explain further. "Slaying" isn't a standard magic item power, but you can always add other abilities to even a unique magic weapon (or armor, for that matter).
As for the "Uses Custom Text" flag set, yes, I'd appreciate some pointers. JD |

In the editor, go to the "Item Power" tab and create a new power called Slaying (with whatever description you want, and a unique id of "iSlaying" or something). Set the price appropriately, and check the "Uses Custom Text?" checkbox to allow you to enter the details of what the power applies to. Then save it and splice it in. Now when you're adding special powers to a magic item, "Slaying" should be one of the available choices, and once added it should let you specify exactly what you can slay - just like the Bane power.
