I'm a former MTG player - but want to start playing other CCGs.
Especially ones that were underrated or undiscovered jewels when they
came out - and subsequently might be very inexpensive on ebay or
wherever.

BattleTech is pretty good. It plays like something between Magic and the new Star Wars TCG. And you can get booster boxes for 20-30 on ebay. It's set in the BattleTech/MechWarrior universe, and, of course, features BattleMechs prominently.

You can get pre-Gold L5R, Legend of the Burning Sands, and 7th Sea cheap most places. They all play similarly, are all good, and take place in Asia, Arabia, and fictional pirate infested lands, respectively.

Oh, be sure to check out http://www.ccgworkshop.com/ there you can play old CCGs online, with full access to all cards, you can build ANY deck you want and play it against friends or strangers online. Plus I think its still free, though they will be introducing a premium service at some point. So far it works with:

BattleTech
Doomtown
Doom Trooper
Gridiron
Kult
Magi-Nation
Netrunner
and
Wildstorms

Hey Rob, maybe you can do something with them, partner wise.

Illuminati New World Order and On the Edge are both still available by mail order (at $56 and $20 a POP, respectively).

Doomtown & Rage Across Las Vegas I like.

I have heard good things about Over the Edge and Legend of the Burning
Sands.

I'm just giving you a hard time, because I can. I personally loved INWO and
I've only heard good things about OtE. :-)
