Hoping the problem would go away hasn't worked, so here goes...
This group is not an appropriate place to advertise or discuss buying/selling/trading of cards and miniatures, except as it pertains to the use of Card Vault. There are plenty of other web sites and mailing lists out there that let you do this, so please keep this group for questions and/or discussion about CV itself. You might want to put this at the bottom of the group's main page, along with a .txt in the files section set to auto-send when people join the group.
--Kyle Turner emperor799@bellsouth.net Scientists have shown that the moon is moving away at a tiny yet measurable distance from the earth every year. If you do the math, you can calculate that 85 million years ago the moon was orbiting the earth at a distance of about 35 feet. This would explain the death of the dinosaurs. Well, the tall ones anyway. -- Unknown ----- Original Message ----- From: Colen McAlister To: cardvault@yahoogroups.com Sent: Friday, September 19, 2003 3:00 AM Subject: [CardVault] Buying / selling cards Hoping the problem would go away hasn't worked, so here goes... Since CardVault is an open list, I would also recommend putting new members on moderation. It is an option on Yahoo Groups. That prevents spammers from joining and then firing off a SPAM. Once a member has posted a couple of times, you can move them off of moderation. It is a bit more work for moderators, but not a lot, and it prevents SPAM on your list. I do this on my lists, and it have saved me a couple of headaches. ===== --- Kuni Tetsu Clan War rules guy Moderator of ClanWar-l __________________________________ Do you Yahoo!? Yahoo! Well, as Rob has said, they don't have enough time as it is, and approving every post from new members will get tedious quickly. In general, most groups just have a Rules text file that autosends upon joining, and if a member breaks one of those rules, a warning can be sent, followed by removal from the group.
Anyway, its up to you Lone Wolf guys I guess;-) --Kyle Turner emperor799@bellsouth.net Scientists have shown that the moon is moving away at a tiny yet measurable distance from the earth every year. What he said.... :-)
-Rob P.S. It looks like we still need to write up the official rules and have it auto-sent. :-) At 01:20 PM 9/20/2003 -0400, you wrote: >Well, as Rob has said, they don't have enough time as it is, and approving >every post from new members will get tedious quickly. We do this on the Army Builder mailing list; new members get moderated until they can be trusted not to send a "Earn $$$$ in yuor spare time!!!!1" / "send me teh crack for army builder plz" / "hay guys who wants to buy my army" message. The moderation is actually done by an elite team of volunteers, and not us (we prefer to spend our time writing software). So far, I don't think there's any reason to moderate this list. The catalyst for it happening on the AB list was a load of spam, which limited moderation has solved. -- Colen McAlister (colen@wolflair.com) Lone Wolf Development www.wolflair.com ------------------------ Yahoo!
