15-MAY-2008 Savage Worlds datafiles to be included with the Hero Lab Authoring Kit

Lone Wolf Development and Great White Games are excited to announce that Hero Lab’s upcoming Authoring Kit release will incorporate support for the Savage Worlds game system.

Great White Games’ popular Savage Worlds system is among the most notable RPG successes in recent years and has established strong roots in the player community. Hero Lab’s multi-system platform provides an excellent launch-point for character creation and in-game support for Savage Worlds.

With the release of Hero Lab’s Authoring Kit, you’ll be able to create complete datafiles for any RPG, and share those files with anyone. Providing a flexible framework which simplifies the datafile creation process, the Authoring Kit will include detailed documentation and a tutorial that outlines the creation of datafiles for Savage Worlds. The complete Savage Worlds datafiles will also be included for players who simply want to start using Hero Lab immediately for their Savage Worlds gaming.

Thanks! Rob and Ken get the credit on this one, for coming up with the
idea of doing Savage Worlds like this and for getting the license signed.

And now the question everyone's waiting for: Is Savage Worlds going to delay the release of M&M and the Authoring Kit, or is most of the work already done?

Savage Worlds will have *zero* impact on the M&M release, for all practical purposes. Colen is working on the M&M stuff, while I'm working on the Kit right now.

The SW stuff will be *part* of the Authoring Kit, so it will impact the Kit. However, it won't have any appreciable impact on the release date. To make the Kit truly useful, we need to provide solid examples of how to do stuff. One option would be to contrive some silly game system that makes no sense and write examples for that. A better option is to actually use a *real* game system as the example - one that makes sense and is well known - and that's the role SW will be playing in the Kit. So the only real difference is that we'll be using a real game system for all the examples instead of a contrived game system. Both will take about the same about of time and effort, but SW is much more useful in this regard.

Understood, and thanks for the info. My apologies for being a nuisance; I'm eager to get to work!
