2: So 1.1b will have to be manually downloaded and installed then the problem will be fixed?

Yes, that is one easy way to solve the problem. You can also do it using the Updates mechanism if you wish. The Updates mechanism downloads the file to your computer and places it in the "download" directory beneath where you installed Hero Lab (e.g. "c:herolabdownload"). So you can also use the Updates mechanism to download the file, after which HL will crash. You can then directly launch the installer ("hl11b.exe") from the directory on your computer. The net result is identical to downloading the file manually and launching it.
