I noticed this was added in 1.3, but I can't see where it tells you

See the previous Card Image posts for more info. Are you a datafile author?
If so, please compress the bitmaps into JPEGs so they take up less space on users' Hard Drives. If you're not a datafile author, you migth want to talk to the author about adding the pics you have to his datafiles. Also, with the update to 1.3, the author might already be planning to add pics to the gamesystem you want to add your pics to. --Kyle Turner emperor799@bellsouth.net "Despite the high cost of living, it remains a popular item." - unknown ----- Original Message ----- From: astro_city To: cardvault@yahoogroups.com Sent: Tuesday, September 23, 2003 3:12 PM Subject: [CardVault] How do you add bitmaps to card details? Let me rephrase that. How do you add bitmaps to the description text?
I'm working on a datafile for .hack//ENEMY, I've already added the card images, but now I'm working on adding the symbols to the description text. Oh, okay. Rob, Colen, or prob Jim can help you out with that. But please, do use JPEGs as they are MUCH smaller.

Bitmaps are added via encoded text. Check the "fundamentals" section of the
Kit for a complete list of all the new encodings. Fields that can utilized encoded text are flagged as such within the documentation (e.g. card description text, tag names, etc.). -Rob At 07:12 PM 9/23/2003 +0000, you wrote: >I noticed this was added in 1.3, but I can't see where it tells you >how it works. > >Jeremy --------------------------------------------------------------------------- Rob Bowes (rob@wolflair.com) (559) 658-6995 Lone Wolf Development www.wolflair.com ------------------------ Yahoo! Do *NOT* use JPEGs for bitmaps! Why? Because they won't work. Why didn't we
add support for this? Because a 16x16 bitmap (probably a bit large for bitmaps inserted into description text) is actually smaller as a BMP than a JPEG. And besides, as long as a file is less than 64KB in size, it uses the exact same amount of disk space on your computer. It doesn't matter whether it's 4 bytes in size of 63K in size. It still uses up 64K on the disk. So your assertion is only valid for files larger than 64K and therefore not applicable to data file authoring. JPEGs are ONLY supported for card images, which are a completely different matter. -Rob At 04:04 PM 9/23/2003 -0400, you wrote: >If so, please compress the bitmaps into JPEGs so they take up less space >on users' Hard Drives. --------------------------------------------------------------------------- Rob Bowes (rob@wolflair.com) (559) 658-6995 Lone Wolf Development www.wolflair.com ------------------------ Yahoo! Well, add me to the list of someone who's trying to add bmp images to the data files.
I'm working on converting/cleaning up the Shadowfist files and want to use this feature. What am I doing wrong? The files in this example are jam.bmp and tech.bmp and are both in the game directory as stated in the .def file. Quote:

Do you have the bitmap files (saved as Windows bitmaps, i.e. .bmp files) in the folder for the game system, named "tech.bmp" and "jam.bmp"? (The file extensions are important.)
If you do, everything should be working fine. If not, make sure they're saved in the correct format, with the correct filenames. If that still doesn't work, please use CVExport to package up the files, and email them to me at colen@wolflair.com - I'll take a look at it and see what's wrong. Hope this helps! |
