One way is a make a hidden stat (eg, 'alpha') then in the option's
special attributes put 'stat:alpha+1. In the unit's external
attributes put 'lcmp:alpha<#+1'

In the unit's local attributes box put 'calc:stat=#' # being the
number of models in the unit. The part after the equals can be an
expression involving basic arithmatic symbols, and up to 4 terms.

OK, that's kinda odd. I've never heard of this happening before... what
operating system are you running?

Does it include any types that are longer than 10 characters? I've seen
that cause similar errors in the past.

That's really weird. Are you experiencing similar malfunctions in other
applications?

For this purpose, you don't use the definition file at all, it's all in the
data files. Here are 3 ways of doing it:

1) If a unit has a stat 'Blah' with a value of 'D', give it the unit local
attribute 'attr:Blah="D"'.

2) If the stats can be selected by the user based on options, have an
option use the 'stxt:Blah="B"' attribute to change the stat value
appropriately.

3) If you need to be able to increment / decrement stats, for example if
you can take a 'Skrill Weapon' that increases your Blah stat by 2 letters
(e.g. from B to D or from A to C), you can use the a attribute like
'smap:Blah-map:1=A,2=B,3=C,4=D,5=E'. Then have the 'Skrill Weapon' option
just increase the value of Blah by 2 (using stat or base). Then, for a unit
with a Blah of C, give them the value '3' for the stat and Army Builder
will do all the work in turning it into numbers for you.

Hope this helps,

You can use a unit external attribute, 'mustption=Whatever@max=#', to
ensure that no user can ever take more Whatevers than there are models in
the unit.

I've recently upgraded to Windows XP.

None longer than 10, but there was one that was nine characters long. I've
shortened it and the problem has disappeared.

No other applications are having problems that I've noticed. Here's something
even weirder: I've discovered that the problem goes away as long as there's at
least one unit in the roster with either of the umin or umax attributes...

Thanks for your help.
Richard

Did the problems start immediately after you upgraded, or did it work for a
while before not working?

Does that include the problem with the validation message below, as well?

That's really odd. And you said this occurred with every game system, not
just the one you were writing?
