Just wanted to know if there is anyone out there who knows how to
operate construction kit thoroghly and is willing to help guide me. I
want to create a file for a game i want to create, but cant find
certain info in the guides. I will not need constant help as i am
somewhat fluent with programing. SO if anyone could offer me some
help please message here, maybe leave your email so i can talk to you
through email or email me at scico101@yahoo.com thanx

I'll help with specific questions.

My advice (which is how I learned) is to examine the files for an
existing game you're familiar with (W40K in my case). Think about the
rules you want to implement in AB, and think of a set of files that
already implements them, and look to see how they did it.

Admittedly, I also asked a lot of questions, and Rob Bowes (AB's
programmer) and Colen McAlister (the original 40K files author) were
very helpful.

OK cool, first off i play warhammer fantasy, and yes i have been
looking at the files for that game system and it has helped a little.
I guess you could call this question one. I want to know how to
create my own data file i think it is called. Is it possible for me
to setup my own data base so i can in essnce have totally different
options. basically this is the conflict i see before me. I want to
create a new game so i go to new, but it gives me preexisting options
for lets say warhammer or that tutorial thing. I want to be able to
start my own, is this possible and what do i need or what do i do to
start my own file? thanx, i might be totally off the target but its
what i've found, thanx for the help mathias.

In the manual for the construction kit, it describes how to make a
definition file for AB. That allows you to set up the rules you want
(Construction Kit Manual, pg 11).

Another good method is to check out the datadef file from the sample
data. If you installed the tutorial files (if not reinstall ab and
say yes) it will be in the armybuilder directory (not the datadir) as
tutordef.txt

Most of it is listed in the manual, but I found it rather handy to
see the completed beast.

Also, make careful note of blank lines, abdef *really* hates them.
And, errors listed when you attempt to compile are generally caused
by the previous line I found.

Hope this helps a bit.
Cheers,
Graham T.
