DOH!!!! I suppose I should actually do a little research before I post
an idiotic question like that in the future. Thank you.

LOL I have actually already gotten my issue with
these rules, they rock, and I hope you will be adding
them once you have them available.

Good call--and the main interest of the munchkins using them will be to
create monstrosities that are illegal, that a properly done set of AB data
for them wouldn't be useful to them anyway.

I'm sure that the GW team have forseen that possibility, and it will be
difficult to make too much of a monstroity, something like for every plus
one point of armour you add, you reduse your movement by 1 inch, , or if you
carry more theh X amount of guns on your vehivcle, you can still only fire 3
per turn, or move and fire one, the simple way around it is just not to play
anyone that gets stupid with them. For example I'm going to use them to
construct a bridge Laywer for my Wolves, but it's gonna be a scenerio piece,
and all it's gonna have is a turret mounted storm bolter, it's not a war
machine, but burble, burblr, burble, burble, o.k, thats it, I've lost the
plot,
If I catch it again, I'll let you know.
Marc.

I have not actually seen teh new rules for the custom vehicles, but from what
i've been told, there are about 8 pages of charts in the new WD covering
them. I thought there may be quite some trouble with writing a data file
with so many variables to it. So please let us know what you think once you
have seen the rules. I would rather be able to have my whole force list on a
AB print out than have the vehicles writen seperately by hand like days of
old.

I have been using the rules for a couple days now, creating all sorts of
silly things.

The creation process is really not that difficult. As I have not studied
how to create data files,( preferring to benefit from the labor of others =)
what comes below is basically a logic thing on what I have seen done in ab
so far:

Everything you create is a Vehicle, so make a vehicle unit that can take the
available options.
You would select its speed
Its Size
Weapons - Weapons would then be customizable with the various options, like
creating a magic item.
Choose the armor values, maybe a +/- option (like for number of bolters or
something) for each location.
and so on.....

There are really very few steps, and the options are nothing two
complicated, IMO.

Well, there's my 2 cents worth...

Thanks,
Paul

How about having a vehicle that allows you to input the data that you have
created on paper?

That way you can have the cool custome skimming dreadnought with
battlecannon listed on your AB printout at least.

Thanks again,
Paul

The alternative to that is to design your vehicles by hand, then create a data file for it.

From: Mathias Gehl <mgehl@home.com>
Subject: Item & Option Processing Order

Rob,
I'm trying to create datafiles for FASA's Renegade Legion Centurion
game, and am starting with implementing the tank creation rules.
However, I'm running into a few problems with the order in which
calculations are performed.
I'm doing the unit creation by constructing the vehicle out of items
(although I could re-write it in an option model, if you think that
might be easier). My problem is that most of the items add to various
stats, and I occasionally need to perform calculations based on the
stats, and most importantly, I need to know that the calculations are
happening before or after certain modifications are made.
As far as I can figure, for items, everything is processed from top to
bottom of the item list. Is it possible to force this order? Maybe an
auto-sort, which can sort things by their item category (my set-up
works, if the items are placed in the right order). Or is there
something else I can do to get things to happen in a certain order.

Thanks for any help you can give me.
Mathias Gehl
mgehl@home.com

P.S. Since the files for VOR are on the website, I presume FASA has
given permission for datafiles to be published for any of their games,
right?
