Heya -
I just downloaded the demo version of CardVault after seeing it in
a local store. I must say it does everything I used to have in an
Access database that got trashed a couple of years ago when I was
heavy into MTG. I am getting back into it now and am trying to get
my cards back in order (sorted by color and then by alphabetical). I
am going out to buy a copy of this program in the next day or so, but
wanted to make a couple of suggestions.

First: I keep all my playing cards separate from my collection
binders. It would be nice to have a separate column to check off
that I have a card in a binder. I need to count these separate from
my inventory since I don't play with what is in the binder.

Second: I like the way I can customize and export a deck listing to
HTML. It would be nice however to be able to export the whole list
to an excel spreadsheet (assuming that the item above is not going to
come available). I don't need to export anything but the card name,
color, type, release and rarity. yet there is no way to currently do
this.

A couple of other suggestions and comments for future releases of the
program:

1. Allow the current window within a window to be moved around on
the screen so we can move it out of the screen center.
2. I found that video refresh and mouse movement is very jetky in
Windows XP. Moved the program over to Win98 and everything
significantly improved.
3. Allow for the resizing of the two main windows or put a
horizontal slide bar. I created one view that exceeded the size of
the Available Cards window and was unable to horzontally scroll to
see the other columns.

Thanks for listening. Great product and I look forward to getting my
inventory input so I can use it as it was meant to be used :-)

Cheers, RDJ

Well, use "Mint" quality for the stuff in the binder, and a different quality
for the stuff you use to play.

Hmmm... this would actually be fairly trivial to add as an extension. All you
have to do is read in the XML data from the deck, and then output it as a csv
file that will easily import into Excel. If I was good enough with XML, you
could likely do it with an XSL sheet.

That has to do with system overhead (assuming you have the same processor speed
on both systems). As they say "Andy giveth, and Bill taketh away." - Every
version of Windows consumes a significantly greater amount of cycles to perform
the same tasks

Good idea but it doesn't work for me since many of my cards that I
play with are also mint quality. it makes extra book keeping which
is a real headache when you are talking about 50,000 cards. and that
does not include any sets newer than tempest.

Interesting thought. I am a hardware propeller head tho and not a
software propeller head :-) Will have to look into learning the XML
stuff as a backup plan while I wait for the developers to weigh in.

Ahhh now here I can make a meaninful reply :-). I would tend to
agree with you if both machines were equal in processor and memory
but the XP machine is a dual 733 with 500MB of ram while the 98
machine is of lesser power (can't remember off the top of my head)
and only has 256 of RAM. I suspect there may be some optimizaiton
that can be done for XP but it is running good on 98 so I am a happy
camper.

Thanks for the input :-)

Bob's suggestion is an excellent one in the short-term (using an alternate
card quality). We've had a number of serious collectors asking for some new
features to handle special situations like you're describing, so features
to support these things are likely to appear in future updates.

The ability to export decks in a public XML file format is already planned
for the next release of Card Vault. At that point, it should be relatively
easy to accomplish the above by just loading the XML file directly into
Excel (since Excel can handle XML files OK). Alternately, an extension can
be written that does a more proper conversion to Excel. So this one is
definitely on the way.

I'll investigate this one.

This is not necessarily due to XP. The video refresh is a function of the
video card installed AND the video drivers. With an old (or low-end) video
card, Card Vault will be have sluggish video refresh. And, in some cases,
the video drivers for XP are *BAD* for some cards. This can also be the
cause. But the problem is not directly tied to Card Vault under XP.

This is already on the wish list for a future update. In the meantime, you
can use an info window at the bottom to display card details. When
configuring a view, groups that are marked as "Info" are shown in the card
details - in the order you specify them for the view. So you can control
exactly what gets shown where and in what order.

Thanks, Rob
