Perhaps I misunderstood. I do own Savage Worlds. I assumed that Pathfinder, Savage Worlds, etc were "Game Systems" and I had to start with a copy of the core configuration for that setting and then overlay my modifications on it, hence using copy Game System.

Are you saying Savage Worlds is baked in and I could just have started with a new data file? When I look at my file in the editor, I don't see anything except that which I have added. Am I ok to continue with what I have or should I start over?

Yeah, when you duplicate the system you duplicate the core rules. No need to do that at all. For a new wetting just make a new data file (say LowLife.dat) in your data directory for the base system (mine is in C:\ProgramData\Hero Lab\data\savage) for it and you're good to go. As I mentioned you might also consider making a LowLife.1st file there for your source as well. If you download any of the Savage Settings you can get an idea of what else is there. I found it best to work from examples where I could. Oh, I should note that not all of the settings files use a .1st file, but most of them do. High Space definitely has one with examples of using sub-settings and some exampls of even using different stats for creating ships using just a data file, which is pretty interesting.

But, yes, there's no need to duplicate the game system at all since your "source" selections will help keep everything separate, just be sure to double-check all your entries to make sure you have a source setting in it or those things will show up in other settings, too. I always end up missing one or two entries myself.

Official (In the downloader)
50 Fathoms, Deadlands: Hell On Earth, Deadlands: Noir, East Texas University, Necessary Evil (requires Super Powers Companion), Pirates of the Spanish Main, Space 1889 (original file by Erich), Tour of Darkness, Weird War II, Weird Wars: Rome
Coming Eventually
Evernight (LWD has completed their review but I have some fixes to make first... although Pinnacle mentioned this might get an overhaul to SWADE so I may just wait for that first. If you just HAVE to have this now, though, just PM me)

Ok when I added a .1st file, the races I had created were no longer available. when I removed the .1st file they were available again?

Ok I bet I know what it was. The Races are associated to the source i set up in the interface. They didn't show up with the .1st file because that supplanted the the source I made in the interface right? If I went back an edited the races and associated them with the source in the 1st file they would show up.

Because I set up a source in the interface - do I still need to use the .1st file?

Ok so the cool thing about starting out by creating a duplicate of a setting is your setting shows up as a game system choice in the splash screen. I am betting this means it won't get automatically updated though when the core rules get updated correct?

So the right answer is to start over again in the core setting...

Nothing - its all config so far: Races, Hindrances, Edges, Racial Abilities, etc. I've started another for War / World of the dead. I see how that's just a matter of applying the Source to the main ruleset. My current plan is to do Low Life over without using a copy.

Sorry for the delayed response, but on the .1st file thing. Yeah, your source created in the Editor does kind of get overwritten with the .1st version. Not a problem, though, go back to your Races and just change their source (or edit the XML file to do it, whichever is easier.)
