Hey all,
As a fairly longtime user of ArmyBuilder with Warhammer Fantasy Battle data files, I am curious as if thought has been given to the new data files that will be necessary for the new release coming out in October. Since it is such a drastic change and many of us are thinking about not going with the new changes or maybe playing both. When the new data files are created maybe they can use a different naming convention to allow the continued use of 5th edition data files and allow the use of the 6th edition ones when written at the same time. I, for one, don't want to be stuck to only using the new data files or not being able to upgrade and keep using the old ones. With the publication of the "Ravening Hordes", there has been a lot of discussion with the people I game with and it seems to be a good bit of hesitation whether or not to even try the new rules and many seem intent on doing both. If this is the wrong place for this concern, please point me to the correct place to address it. Thanks, Owen --------------------------------------------------------------------<e|- Go to Maingate.com to improve the quality of military life. http://click.egroups.com/1/7637/4/_/36190/_/965918833/ --------------------------------------------------------------------|e>- To unsubscribe from this group, email armybuilder-unsubscribe@egroups.com |

You can just keep your old files on a disk, and import them in
whenever you'd like. No reason to bug the AB file creators over a simple (and smart) backup/archive solution. I believe you should give the new edition of WHFB a chance. I have the new rulebook and it is EXTREMELY solid. This edition is really a great game. That's just my humble opinion... Hmm, I would have thought if you want to keep the old data files,
you could just rename them all. Change the extension to something else and they wont get overwritten. You only have to do it once. If you really want to get picky, "undef" the datadef file, change the name of the game to "Warhammer (old)" abdef the file again and you're done! Two versions of the Warhammer files. I'm sure this is something that John Connell (keeper of the Warhammer files) can cope with, especially if there is enough demand for it. :-) Judging by the number of people after 40k 2nd ed files, I have no doubt there'll be demand. I think that when somebody (probably John Connell who did the v.5
files) makes the new files, he shold give them a new name - WB6 comes to mind. This would save af few thousand users the trouble of renaming/editing. All that is needed to allow the two game systems to co-exist is to give
them different file extensions. I'm guessing that this is going to be done. If not, you can always just rename the old files to "*.wf5" or something and you'll be able to switch between them. V2.0 adds full support for the new graduated composition limits in WFB6, so that's not a concern. I'd imagine the new files will have a .rav or .wf6 (or whatever) extension, at least that's the way I'd do it. If they don't, just rename all the "whatever.wfb" files to "whatever.wf5". Note that using "whatever.wfb5" won't work, because of some odd bug in windows functions. >If this is the wrong place for this >concern, please point me to the correct place to address it.
