I was wondering if there were any things against selling the portrait files?
I am looking at selling d20Pro prepackage content with creatures already on maps. I was thinking of selling the .por files in the packages as well, so players could easily mod them and reimport them. www.thecheesegrinder.com www.d20Pro.com |

I think the majority of people are still on vacation at the moment. You may want to send them an e-mail directly to check on the legality of such things.

For legal issues, I'd say contact Rob directly. You can find his posts on here to PM him, or you can find the company phone number/email.
My gut feeling is that selling the Portfolio files is not, in and of itself, illegal, but you of course cannot include a .user file with Ultimate Power powers in it and none of the files should contain any copyrighted material. ^_^ But, then again, I am neither a lawyer nor an employee of Lone Wolf. |

I would check with Rob as well, but i dont think there would be a problem with selling art that looks like characters. the images can easily be loaded into HL by dropping them into the Images folder.
what might be a better idea is to off/sell custom inages of specific characters. i think you would get a larger audiance, more money, and happier people. but i dont think there is anything illegal about selling art for the HL product, because they are really just jpg images. i have seen players from my group add their own images to customize a character. I'm not aware of any reason that would preclude selling saved Hero Lab portfolio files. However, if you did so, it would be extremely important that everything associated with the selling was portrayed appropriately. That would include making it clear that Hero Lab is required to use the files, as well as including the necessary trademark references for Hero Lab. But that should be reasonably straightforward.
Since we haven't had anyone do something like this before, I'd need to double-check with our attorney to make sure I'm not overlooking something important. Please send me a direct email (rob at wolflair dot com) about this after the first of the year that outlines the details of what you have in mind. Then I can check with the attorney and get back to you. |

Any new word on this? I would be curious to see some of the images and maybe getting some for my characters.
