how do i add a familiar from a trait?

trait says:
You are mute but you gain a parrot as familiar (use a raven’s stats) as if you were a wizard with a class level equal to your character level. If you have other means (such as from your class) to gain a familiar, the parrot from this trait takes the place of that familiar (you cannot have two).

i tried bootstrapping in cArcFamil and that added a familiar/companion to the portfolio, but the drop down to select what kind of familiar didn't exist. then tried cArcFClass and that seems to do absolutely nothing. any advice/help would be great. the closest thing i found on a search was something about an Obtain Familiar feat (but that it wasn't working) but i couldn't find that in my herolab or d20psrd.com.

as a followup, is there any coding that needs to be done to make sure 2 familiars can't be taken?

There's a feat that grants a Tumor Familiar in the Advanced Class Guide, there is also a feat that grants an Animcal Companion (can't remember which book) but it requires the bootstrapping of a Configurable and then the helpers get bootstrapped to that

The feat was Animal Ally, from Faiths and Philosophies.
