Just to confuse me further, the cards you listed as "reprints" for WoC
don't appear anywhere within the spoiler data I was given by AEG. So does
this mean that AEG throws cards from previous sets into new sets without
even identifying them within the spoiler list?

This is really getting silly..... <sheesh!>

Braced for the answer.....

Here goes: AEG's goal in each expansion is to have the decks be
pretty playable in sealed-deck prereleases. But since expansions are
not standalone, AEG has decided to include previous cards from that
legality arc in the decks, to "fill out" a playable deck (for
example, all cards from GoldEdition onwards were eligible to go in a
deck of WoC)

These cards have (since Gold) their own rarity symbol, and are NOT
considered part of that expansion. The only differences are art,
flavor, and sometimes MRP changes to fix problems(frex, Gifts and
Favors).

Yep! That is *exactly* what it means. They have to put some basic
cards - cards that are usually in whatever the current base set is -
into the starters that come out with each new expansion in order to
make the decks playable (cards like "Jade Works", "Block Supply
Lines", "Medium Infantry", etc.). They're "reprinted" from the
current basic set *and*...

it's frustrating as hell trying to find checklists that include
them!!!! >8-{

I *finally* found a site that does though, and all the information so
far seems to be accurate...

http://www.brozzo.it/

The reprints and new cards from each expansion are listed separately
(scroll down the page for the "reprint" lists) but both lists are
complete for each set from "Heaven and Earth" all the way back
to 'Shadowlands' (and *everything* in between - including a list
of some 180 Promo cards and their sources). Most lists include the
artist in addition to the card name, type, rarity, and edition.

And...now that you (hopefully) know what "reprints" are - and where
you can find them, I can tell you this...<semi-evil grin>...I haven't
checked out the new file yet but last time I looked, the reprint
listings (including the Winds) were incomplete after "Fire and
Shadow". I realize you may not have time for these right now but I
figured I'd let you know...

BTW, thank you for picking this up where Kuni Tetsu (The Fortune of
Enourmous Contributions 8-} ) had to leave off. The work of both of
you (and everyone else involved) is tremendously appreciated!!

They are called "Starter Decks" These are designed to play right out of the
box, but that means that they use cards from previous sets in order to fill out
the deck with useful cards.

And just to add to the joy, they sometimes are MRP of the other cards, since
AEG takes the opportunity to clean up the wording on some problem cards.

One other VERY KEY difference is that the cards that have been
reprinted No Longer have a card number..

So if a card was originally, for instance, GE #175, and it gets
reprinted in a starter deck, the new card will have any of the
following:

A) New Card Text (a "Most Recent Printing", for example)
B) New Flavor Text
C) New Statistics (For example, "Arrows from the Woods" originally
had a 3 Focus value.. during the Jade Era, it got changed to a 2
Focus Value. In Gold Edition, it was Reprinted with a 3 Focus Value.
Thanks to the rule of MRPs, when AftW was printed with a 2FV, it
forever became 2 Focus value)
D) New Set Nomenclature (Reprinted cards gain the New Set name, for
example WoC)
E) New Rarity Symbol (Commons are a Circle, Uncommons are a Triangle,
Rares are a Star.. Fixed Cards, which are usually Reprinted Cards,
with a few exceptions such as Clan Swords, Champions, etc, are a Star
within a Circle)
F) Possibly, a New Artist. (More details below)

Among these changes, they will lose their Card Number. What Will,
usually, stay the same about these cards is their artists. Sometimes,
if there is a large lapse within sets, they will commission a new
artist to create the art for the new card.

For example, Wedge was originally printed in Time of the Void with
art created by Craig Maher. Now that it's being printed, it will have
New art, with the artist currently unknown.

Hope that helps!

If it was reprinted in gold with a 3 FV, then by the MRP rule, it would now be
a 3 FV again.
