A great place to read up on this would be the following
thread by our CEO which is stickied at the top of this forum explaining in quite a good bit of detail, as-it-were, the whys and wherefores of the Hero Lab Online model.
It does a great job going into some of the reasoning for why it works the way it does and where the plan has been since very early on in its conception and had a discussion on the matter with clarifications offered in reply to questions other users have had. Some of the information is a tad bit dated as it was written more than a year ago and very little of the final implementation or pricing had been agreed upon or finalized at the time. Regardless of that, it's a fantastic resource into the project goals and what we have be aiming for.
