Snippet tags were introduced as a way to handle special case situations that don't impact the typical user very frequently. It's not surprising that my attempts to explain where and how they can best be leveraged don't make a lot of sense. Unless you've encountered these specific situations, it probably just seems like a bunch of contrived ideas.
The benefits of snippet tags will probably make more sense once we've released some of the content that takes advantage of them. At that point, you'll be able to see and interact with concrete examples, which always help explain anything.
FWIW, an important aspect of hybrid tag-based snippets is that we can use them for material we develop, and users can continue using the standard tag-based snippets they've always used. All in the same realms. So users don't ever have to actually worry about them unless they have a genuine need/desire to dive into them.
