I have seen that happen before. My son made a datafile with armor and it did not work. Then I made one and it did work. It is a very strange bug. My suggestion is to copy some existing armor then modify that copy in the editor.
Evil wins because good rolls poorly .... or the players are not paying enough attention to the game.
