Login is only needed for connecting to the cloud for downloads, no? You can access all the realm info on a computer is totally accessible without inputting a password so why not messages too?
If security is really a concern, make sure to log out of your computer when you step away. That seems to be more convenient than deleting all local realm data when you step away and then resynching when you come back which is the other alternative.
