I opened a ticket.
And I did get a reply for more info so this was probably the way to go (my bad!) Hopefully they can sort it out. It's one of those things that could be easy or difficult... I did find c# examples that seem to be on track but haven't done it myself so...

As a developer, I know the drill. More bug reports == more visibility. And it's a lot easier to justify spending several hours fixing bug xyz when reported by 20+ users than it is for 1 user.
Re subscriptions: UserCP -> Edit Options -> Default Thread Subscription Mode
