Ah, Grasshopper. All things seem simple when viewed as a single entity and one excludes everything else. But combined, many simple pieces become a complex whole. And all the pieces must be kept in balance with one another or the whole ceases to exist.
Without knowing how this particular piece of RW was coded and what else in RW relies upon this same bit of code that could stop working as intended, it's impossible to determine if it's a simple change from our vantage point.
I'm willing to bet RW utilizes some third party libraries for speed, consistency and simplicity. The behavior you seek may be reliant on code from a third-party that LWD would have to rewrite from scratch or convince the third party to change. It becomes a cost-benefit question then.
