Adding the update link to HL for iPad updates, give you the 5E Community Pack.

Here's what I did for now:
1) on the iPad:
a) removed the Community Pack from my sources
2) on my PC:
a) did a git sync to get the latest from master (as my current character is using a MToF druid circle)
b) used HLExport to export all Comm_5ePack files
c) used iTunes File Sync and dragged the resulting .hl file into it's updates

3) back on the iPad:
a) launched Hero Lab and checked for updates - there's a big button saying there's a local file update now
b) imported my .por file from DropBox (this is also a bit kludgy as I'll have to export it back to DropBox after every game session and then re-import it before each session - but that's not germane to this conversation )
