When paying a custom cost, it's got limits on how much it's set up to make change, because someone might be using a custom cost to pay 300cp for a 3gp item, and we don't want to mess up the selection of coins the user has said they want to get rid of - do you have all the specific coins you're telling it to pay?
On the journal, you can enter -1 in gp, 10 in sp, and then accept that change, in order to make change.
