Hero Lab Online is actually our primary focus, so to speak, and is very much NOT dead in the least as it's seeing one or more updates every single week!

The ability to share materials with a group of players is absolutely possible! This is done by way of the Patron Service tier which enables users to create what are known as Campaigns that you can invite your players to who need only create a free demo Account to log into and to follow a link (or enter a code you generate) to join the game and to make Characters using the packages you own for the RPG you set the Campaign up for.
The buy-in price very much varies depending on what exact books you want to get unlocked.

Generally speaking, if you want a good estimate for what you'd need to suit your needs and a full detailed breakdown and conversation about what would be best for your group it would be far better handled by way of contacting us directly via the support email address that you'll find in my signature and include a general idea of what books and content you're hoping to leverage for your game. A quick and dirty answer to the question, however, would be that the initial enrollment for a 6-month Patron package + the Core Rules to set you up for the base game and the ability to share it with players would run you aprox $50 USD. Another thing to note is that once you pick up any Core systems or add-ons for them you will NEVER have to purchase those again with the only requirement to keep things running is to renew once your service time balance runs out.
