We definitely want to do something like this for stock heroes. Ideally instead of having to select which stock portfolio you want, Hero Lab would just display the heroes in each one, and let you search by level / CR / class / race / whatever. Including stuff in other directories and portfolios too is a great idea too!
We're focused on getting Hero Lab released for the iPad right now, but once we do we'll be taking a look at improvements like these. Some parts of HL are definitely creaking under the amount of content we have for Pathfinder now.
