New update - v3.99 (beta)

Ex-Staff
Hi everyone,

I've fixed the various bugs reported in point cost calculations for the previous beta. If you're using it, please update to this new version and they should be fixed. (There were some other non-points-cost related issues that were reported which are not fixed yet, but they are on the to-do list to work on in the future.)

You can download the latest beta version of the files here:

http://www.wolflair.com/download/hp/mutants_beta.hl

Thanks! Please let me know if you have any problems.

I have a quick Hl question, Do all these betas (and heck updates period lol) overwrite the older versions of HL (I hope) or does it just continue to eat up drive space?
(Guess I should've asked this b4 now lmao):p

Well, okay.....you asked for it. :p

First, Hurray! The one "Problem Child" character that had suddenly become over budget is now back to the correct cost. :)

Second, I see that the "mouse over" breakdown has been fixed for Saves: example the breakdown of WILL Save for a character that has a WIS of 8 now correctly shows Breakdown: Wisdom (-1), Enhanced Trait (+8) :) BUT mousing over the bonus for the Ability still shows Breakdown: User (+8) not Breakdown: User (-2). Same with a baseline Ability score of 10, that shows Breakdown: User (+10) instead of Breakdown: User (+0)

Only mentioning it in case it slipped through the cracks. Apologies if it's on the "To Do List."

As always, keep up the good work,
Nigel Fogg, aka The Wayfarer :)

Huh... I had King Cole I statted up with an array of devices with powers. When I brought him back up, there was a validation error saying that the array settings were not valid, and there are some peculiarities like it showing an Array as the only power with no ranks containing Devices no ranks containing powers with no ranks. Unfortunately, I'd saved the file before noticing the change, but I can send the messed up file to you at least.

Had this in a separate thread but thought it a good idea to put it in the v3.99 (beta) feedback. :)

I compared what the printed Play Aid Sheet says for the Helpless condition with the 31 Aug 2007 Errata from Green Ronin.

Currently the Player Aid Sheet says:

Helpless: +4 to be attacked in melee, no dodge bonus, -9/-5 to Defense.

I'll leave the question to each GM out there of whether or not the additional +4 bonus applies when an "adjacent" melee attacker uses a melee attack that has Extended Reach. ;)

However, my reading of the Errata tells me that there isn't a distinction between if the incoming attack is ranged or melee. It's just a straight -5 to the "base 10" of DEF.

Therefore, I believe it should read:

Helpless: No dodge bonus, -5 to Defense and an additional -4 to DEF from adjacent melee attacks.

Additionally, I went to the Adjust Tab and clicked upon the Helpless condition and it simply removed all the additional bonus I had purchased for DEF on the Abilities Tab instead of just the Dodge Bonus.

As stated above, to be in accordance with the Green Ronin Errata it should also subtract 5 from the base DEF value of 10.

Only mentioning this to help ensure it doesn't get lost in the weeds with the preparations for Gen Con and the enthusiasm for M&M 3rd Edition. ;)

I've just noticed some bugs/imprecisions regarding feats and the Super-senses options.

About feat many feats from supplements (especially Mastermind Manual) aren't marked as unique when they should be.

About Super-senses, many option (like counter illusion) are marked unique when they should be usually bought separatly for each sense type.

Minor thing... Right now, if you mouse over a power setting for a variable, it's maked as costing 1 per 2 ranks and a total cost of 1. Of course, power settings cost nothing at all, but it would fit in with default behavior for "cost of 0" for cost per rank and for the total cost, at least for display purposes.

One other thing I noticed, for some reason if I try to stack the Quickness or Speed part of Super-speed with an external source it doesn't work at all.

Whenever you download a new version of a game system, it overwrites the old one. So you don't have to worry about eating up lots of disk space with multiple downloads. New versions of the Hero Lab installer don't overwrite the old ones, but they're pretty small (8mb or so).

I'm not getting these errors at all; I also don't see any Array on the hero, which is what I'd expect from them. Is there meant to be an Array present?

Thanks for the other bug reports, everyone - I've added them to my list to fix.

Yeah, I bet you won't make the mistake of asking us to take a Beta Version on a "shakedown cruise" ever again. :p

However, if you do....I'm sure we'll be glad to help with it just like we did this time around. :)

The alternative was me releasing it just before Gen Con and having all those bugs come out of the woodwork while I was away, with no way to downgrade back to the old version. So on balance, I think this was better. :)

^_^ Away from the computer in question, but if I recall, it's actually done as a regular array with the "Ice Weapons" linked power being the base one. I never got that message again, just the one time, and it doesn't look like anything's missing...

Oh I was just teasing. It was a very good idea.

Not only does it mean the Release will be better (dare I say bug-free?) but it also meant you didn't have folks coming up to you at Gen Con asking "hey, did you know that you guys got <insert item of complaint> wrong with your latest release?"

That would've put a damper on your enjoyment of the Con not to mention the software's reputation. ;)

Hope this isn't too late to make the "Fix Before Next Release" List......

I made an HQ. Then I added the Equipment: 'Reference Materials' via the Equipment Tab.

On the Headquarters Tab, the display showing how the points have been spent lists "EP spent on Feats" instead of "EP spent on Equipment"

Nigel Fogg, aka The Wayfarer

Anothe HQ issue, if I gave any power to an NPC's headquaters the system gave me an error apparetly it calculates the NPC's level as "0" rather than it's real value.

I strongly suspect that this impacts too many existing builds, but currently, ESP has an "Affects" drop box for the sense type that has options like "1 sense, 2 senses, visual senses, 2 + visual senses, etc". Obscure, Concealment, Dazzle, and Illusion, and probably a few more I'm missing simply list "1 sense, 2 senses, 3 senses, etc" and assumes you'll count Visual for two senses. *sigh* If you made the change now, it affects everyone who's already picked this. But perhaps, if you fix it for 3E?

I'm confused, are you trying to say the drop-down is in error or too complicated?

It currently has "1 Type (1/r)" - "2 Types (2/r) - "Visual Senses (2/r) - "2 Types, Including Visual (3/r)" - "3 Types (3/r)" - "3 Types, Including Visual (4/r) and then "All Types (4/r)" which is entirely correct and reminds folks of the easily overlooked/forgotten statement on page 49 of Ultimate Power that the Visual Sense Type does count as a 2 rank purchase when tallying up the cost, whether you pick up an additional Sense Type for use with the ESP or not.

Not wishing to start an arguement, I'm just not understanding why you think it's a bad thing to have the drop-down list "remind" people of that fact.

Perhaps you are saying the other powers should also have this same drop-down list in order to be consistent? If so, I'd like to point out that the features of Super Sense, to my reading of the book, seems to have exceptions to the "visual always costs double" philosophy...perhaps because Super Senses are, well, senses. ;)

Yes, I am saying that the other ones I listed probably should list the expanded options. ^_^ Reminder that Visual costs double and all that.

Unfortunately, I don't know that there's a way to fix that in 2E and not mess up everyone who's come before...
