I might be able to shed some light on this issue - I was having the same error message ('finalize' script) until I realised that I had switched my "Language for non-unicode programes" over to Japanese to play some games I have. Once I switched this back to English, it all started working.

So this may be caused by having a non-english language set for non-unicode programs in Windows.
