Welcome to the Battlefleet Gothic data file support forum.

I'll be using this site to collect all bug reports for the Army Builder datafiles for BFG, and to keep everyone interested updated in the status of the files.

As far as the AB 3.x files go, I'm still in the middle of a considerable rewrite. As I work on the 40k datafiles, I learn all sorts of nifty new ways to do things, so I have been optimizing the way the BFG files work, as rules wise it is far simpler in nature.

I'm considering setting up a little list for people that would like to "beta" test the files as I complete some of them. Anyone interested can drop me a pm.

Check out the Orca...I think I forgot to give it stats...

Warmonger June 20th, 2005 11:04 PM

For those interested in Beta testing, I have some new stuff to rate and review. You can help shape the future of the data files! Just drop me a PM!

I'm up for it...I can certainly keep an eye on the Eldar, DE and Tau easily enough...Also I have friends playing Chaos, IN and Necrons...

Tau Error -> Using the ForgeWorld fleet throws an error for allying with normal tau fleet which is allowed per IA3.

knthrak February 27th, 2009 11:54 PM

I don't see it. When using the Kor'or'vesh ruleset, simply allow reserves and it 'should' allow access to all the standard tau fleet vessels as well. If it's still occurring, let me know how to recreate the error and i'll get it sorted for the next update for you.

to swap between fleets, you have to go to "change rules" and swap the fleet. This thows the "rules flag". If there are ships from each fleet, it thows this error.

knthrak June 8th, 2009 01:25 PM

Thanks for that. I'll have a look tonight

The Ork normal and armageddon fleets have incorrect point costs for most of the escorts. Everything but the brute is set at 40pts, where in the list PDF from GW they are different (onslaught 45 savage 40 ravager 35).

knthrak August 25th, 2009 10:58 PM

Hmm. Hadn't noticed that one. I know I updated them when the new bbb came out. i'm going to check what's happened there. Release 3 will be uploaded in the next day or so for ab3.2, i'll get those updates into the next version.

at0m August 26th, 2009 04:41 AM

Well the PDF of the rulebook has 40 listed for each in their description, but then in the fleet list in both books they're 45/40/35. I didn't notice any other cost errors in the Ork fleet, although being able to purchase Boarding Torpedoes should require that the ship has Torpedo tubes first. No biggie but a possible validation problem.

If I've got the time I'll poke around in ABCreator and see if I can give you an updated Ork fleet, but I don't have the Sqwadron rules so I'm not sure how much use that would be.

knthrak September 7th, 2009 03:11 PM

With the new BBB, only parts of it were updated. The actual ship listings, where it gives a description of the ships are correct. The army lists are not.

I'll have the points updated later this week and online.

I downloaded the new file for Battlefleet gothic for version 3.2 and
now when I go to load it I get a pop up that tells me
Syntax error in 'qualify' tag expression for Profile 'btcrs'
->Tag 'group.btlcrs' not defined.
Please help

Armybuilder v3.2 is designed to catch some errors that were not caught by 3.1. So, the BFG files were considered valid in 3.1 but have not been updated for 3.2 to clean up those errors.

Open a game system other than BFG, go to the develop menu, and uncheck "Enable Data File Debugging" - without that, it won't give you debugging messages like this one. If you are working on your own files, you'll have to remember to turn the tools back on when you need them.

Dr.Mercury September 17th, 2009 04:26 AM

That did it, Thanks!

knthrak November 2nd, 2009 02:37 PM

I'm going to release an update in the next day or so which includes a fix for this.

cervantes3773 December 16th, 2009 05:31 PM

The sepulcher upgrade for the Necron tombships (cairn class) should be limited to one per fleet. They currently are not.

cervantes3773 December 16th, 2009 09:23 PM

Sorry to double post so soon, but I found something else.
The Necron list currently, and correctly, limits a player to 6 scythes, 6 tombships, and 3 shrouds. However, it should also limit the player the 12 dirges and 12 jackals.

knthrak January 10th, 2010 11:31 AM

Thanks!

I've come across a few issues when using this datafile, most of which are minor:

In chaos, the Slaughter class cruiser has the wrong speed listed: it's 5cm too slow.

Space marine escort vessels have incorrect point values. They should all be increased by 5 points as they are SM "Rapid Strike Vessels" and pay the cost of having SM crew.

In the armageddon fleet list, I cannot figure out how to take the space marine options.

In the Tyranid list, the rules are incorrect for the ratio of Hive Drones to hive ships: only 6 escorts of any kind are required per hive ship, not 6 Escort Drones. The fleet list says, and I quote, "You may include between 6 and 12 escort class ships for each hive ship. If no hive ships are chosen, only Kraken and Vanguard drone ships may be included in the fleet." This means that when you take a Hive ship, you must take any 6 from any of the 3 classes, as long as it meets the standard rules for squadrons (i.e, minimum of 2 ships per squadron).

Furthermore, in tyranids, some of the evolution options are missing. Some of the ones I noticed missing: Psychic Scream, Mucous Membranes, More Discharge Vents, Accelerated Healing, Drone Link, Tenacity, and Mega-Spore Mines.

That's all I've noticed so far. Bang-up job so far, mate!

The Reserve Fleets of Segmentum Obscurus

I have a Reserve Fleets of Segmentum Obscurus list and have noticed that I can't actually create one on AB.

"If you wish, you may use a Battlefleet Obscura
Reserve Fleet, picked using the fleet list opposite.
In addition, you may of course use the Reserves
rule to pick other Imperial vessels not found in
your own fleet list. However, since a reserve fleet
also draws on very old or scarce vessels, you may
also use your reserve choices to select any of the
following Chaos vessels if you so wish.
Repulsive Class Grand Cruiser
Executor Class Grand Cruiser
Hades Class Heavy Cruiser
Murder Class Cruiser
Carnage Class Cruiser"

Including something about the "Strange Happenings" rule would be nice, also...

I am currently unable to access the BFG builder due to the following problem:

The data files could not be loaded due to the following errors:

The Chaos Murder class cruiser shows no weapon systems unless the option for Plaugeclaw and Despicable Ecstacy is selected. The standard for that class should be Rng 45 Fp 10 port and starboard weapon batteries and Rng 60 Str 2 dorsal lances with the option to change the weapon configuration on the Plagueclaw and Despicable Ecstacy.

dj0311dj July 20th, 2010 07:38 PM

Sorry for the double post but I forgot to mention there is also no leadership for a the Chaos Murder class cruiser and no way to adjust it from 0.

Fix is simple: Laod up a safe game system such as the sample game systems, and then in the menus under "develop" disable data file debugging.

No One Really There...

There's no one really updating the BFG file for Army Builder, is there? It hasn't been updated in months. If there's not, just fess up so that someone else familiar with the authoring software can pick up the torch.....:)

knthrak October 13th, 2010 04:54 PM

Heyo,

Just checked my old email account and realised i'd forgotton about this. I am standing down as datafile editor, hope there's someone out there whom will take over.

Void Stalker

I cannot seem to find the Void Stalker in any of the Eldar lists. Am I doing something wrong? Is it hiding or is this a bug?

Thanks!
Kal

BlueDagger October 28th, 2010 07:24 AM

The Void Stalker should be under the Eldar fleet, not under Craftworld Eldar (unless you have a hero). If you aren't seeing it make sure you have the latest version of the BFG module and under Roster -> changes rules that Eldar alternate fleet "all ships" is checked.

Hi,

I used to use the BFG data files a while ago but I stopped playing, however I decided to pop in to see what was happening. It's great to see someone taking up the banner as I wouldn't like to see the end of the BFG datafiles for other players!

Just a quick note, and I don't know if you've already sorted it, but a solution to the unable to open files with developer turned on is fairly straightforward (and as far as I can see without repercussions).

Go to the BFG.def definition file, unit stat tab and change both the armour and speed lower bounds to -4 (armour) and -7 (speed), which are technically both the lower bounds. That gets rid of all the errors on loading :)

Hope this is useful to you, I might be interested in doing some coding or something, though i'll admit now i'm not the greatest!

p.s. also could a decision be made on whether to end sentences with full stops or not in rules/throughout? Cheers

BlueDagger December 1st, 2010 05:18 AM

Not sure if it's in the live version or not but the developer mode should be corrected now. Holidays have me a lil busy lol. I changed the eldar speed placeholders from the negative values to a xxxxxx value that stands for the speed... aka instead of 10/15/20 it would be 101520 which will translate to the actual value. This should keep AB from having a heart attack over negative numbers.

Army Builder Version 3.4 - Battlefleet Gothic Datafile 3.3 - Imperial Fleet - 02JUL12

Hi, when I select a Tyrant class cruiser it appears with the standard 30cm Weapon Batteries, but it doesn't allow me to select the standard Torpedo tubes (or select the Nova Cannon upgrade option) without upgrading the Weapon Batteries to the 45 cm ranged variants.

In addition, if you do upgrade to the 45cm ranged variants, the Strength is reduced to 8 per side instead of the correct Strength 10 (or 4+6 to be precise).
