How to do a setting specific dataset w/in a general ruleset?

OK let me 'splain... :)

I have HL with the full d20 and M&M datasets.

I have been working on creating a sci-fi/Traveller setting using M&M rules and would like to set up HL to work for this by heavily modifying the M&M dataset by adding/modifying/deleting skills, vehicles, weapons, etc.

When I am finished I want only the setting specific items to be available when creating characters for that setting.

But I also want to keep the original M&M dataset intact for use in superhero games.

Before I totally screw up any data files I have now I thought I'd get some input in how to go about this.

Do I simply copy the 'mutants' subfolder in the 'data' folder into a new subfolder...'M&MTraveller'?

If yes, then how do I select this when starting up HL? Will a fourth game-system option be automatically available to select (currently d20, M&M, WoD are avail at start-up)?

Thanks in advance for any help!

Your idea will definitely work and that's the quickest and simplest
way of doing it. Once you copy M&M to a new folder, you'll see that
new game system listed in the options for selection, with the name of
the folder beneath the game system.

You can also modify the "config.cfg" file in the new folder to
actually change the name of the game system shown. The file is tiny
and you'll be able to easily see where to change the name. The only
details to remember is that you *must* enter "&" for the "&"
character (this is an XML detail) so that HL can properly load the
file. You'll see an example of this within the original M&M config
file that you copy across.

After you copy the game system, you'll need to also copy all the
updated core M&M material across whenever we release an update. You'll
need the "*.pkg" files, the "*.bmp" files, and *.htm files. Your
custom files will always be separate as "*.dat" files.

Hope this helps!
