Trying to move my Story items from Other to appropriate places

I'm trying to get all of my items that are now arranged in Other into things like Events or Groups. Unfortunately, It doesn't seem interested in letting me move things.
 
What you're talking about, if I understand correctly, is complicated by the display preferences.

"Other" is not a category by itself, but a grouping for categories. It is shown when your display preferences are set to "By Simple Grouping" or "By Simple Grouping and Category". The Topics are each created in a specific Category, which are grouped under the broad Simple Groups. Each Category type specifies what Simple Group that kind of entry is put under.

When you say "your items", do you mean anything in a specific Category? You cannot move individual records (Topics) to different Simple Groups.. all Topics of a particular Category are grouped together.

To see what I mean, switch to the Manage tab and select Preferences. You should see three buttons for changing the display. The buttons have some text that describes the three options pretty well. If you are currently using "By Simple Grouping", changing to "By Simple Grouping and Category" may make what I mean clearer.
