2017 question

I noticed that LW announced that they will no longer be supporting Windows 2000 in 2017 but will keep supporting Windows 7. What about Vista? Is support ending for it too?

Great question! Here's our general plans for different versions of Windows:

Windows 2000 - no longer supported. Starting in early 2017, new versions of Hero Lab won't run at all on this OS. (Fun fact: You can count the number of people who have recently used Hero Lab on Win2k on the fingers of one hand.)

Windows XP - still supported, but next on the chopping block. Starting in mid-2018, the technologies XP relies upon to access secure web sites will be deprecated and turned off - we will likely drop support for it then. Note that at some point, Microsoft may update their development tools such that they don't work with Windows XP any more, or we may choose to take advantage of features introduced in newer versions of Windows. At that point Hero Lab won't run on XP any more, but I wouldn't expect that to happen until 2018 at the earliest.

Windows Vista - we will probably continue supporting Vista as long as XP is supported, but no longer - we have fewer Vista users than XP users at this point.

Windows 7 and newer - we plan to continue supporting Windows 7 and newer operating systems for the forseeable future, as it's the second-most commonly used OS for us at this point (most common is Windows 10).

Note that even after we drop support for an operating system, you'll still be able to use the last version of Hero Lab released for that OS, and any data files for it - you just won't be able to update it to anything newer.

Hope this helps!

Five digits, binary:
01 = 00001
02 = 00010
03 = 00011
04 = 00100
05 = 00101
06 = 00110
07 = 00111
08 = 01000
09 = 01001
10 = 01010
11 = 01011
12 = 01100
13 = 01101
14 = 01110
15 = 01111
16 = 10000
17 = 10001
18 = 10010
19 = 10011
20 = 10100
21 = 10101
22 = 10110
23 = 10111
24 = 11000
25 = 11001
26 = 11010
27 = 11011
28 = 11100
29 = 11101
30 = 11110
31 = 11111

So 31 or fewer users.
