Unable to open data file due to an error within the file.

First off, apologies if this is the wrong thread to post this question under.

As the data file author for the Star Wars Xwing & Armada games looks to be on a hiatus, I was updating my copy for the Wave V release of Armada. I'm not a programmer but I've dabbled in his files enough to be able to update for many of the sets that have come out this past summer/fall. After making extensive updates to the Common.dat file I saved and closed it but when I attempted to load the game system or even to open the Common.dat file again I get the following error:

File: Common.dat line (508) - Option 'opSKRIStra' - Invalid characters used in string for attribute 'name'.

Is there a way I can get back into this file to correct the issue or am I stuck restoring a previous version and trying not to make the same mistake?

The file is really just an XML file, so if you have a real editor, it should be easy to fix that particular piece of problematic data (just go to that record and delete everything in the name string that doesn't look like ASCII). I'd use emacs or vim to do it.

However, if you've used some other kind of text processing program, you may have bad data all over, in which case it might be harder to fix.

Send me a PM if it seems too complicated, I can probably take a look at it.

Hi there - try downloading Notepad++ - its a very good text editor with some features such as search/replace in a folder that make it ideal for supporting ABC.

Use Notepad or Notepad++ to open the dat file, navigate to line 508 and edit the option name which should sort the prob
