something outside of adjustments, spells, etc

I'd like to do something similar to Pathfinder's "Mythic".

Id have to create a "level" which isnt associated with an actual character level.

Then a bunch of abilities that someone can select based on their "mythic level" (not using mythic, but for ease of conversation, just referring to it as that).

Besides all the work involved in creating the abilities, im just wondering is there a way that d20 HL can someone handle something like this? It cant be a new class, because that would affect character level, and thats not something i would want it to do.

It cant be a template, because that can be "levelled", etc.

i realize this might be too tall an order, and maybe nobody else would have interest in a mechanism that would allow improved abilities not based on character/class level.

Thoughts?

Off the top of my head I would suggest using Class Variants and/or adjustments.

Or you could beg Shadow to add some additional functionality.

Class Variants wouldnt work, because it requires it to be based on levelling/XP/etc I was thinking of something separate from that. By making it separate, you could have custom alternates that would allow again something similar to mythic in pathfinder for one DM, another DM might do something like Divine Rank from the Dieties and Demigods, etc...

Having a mechanic that is rank based but not based on level/experience can be useful. Just dont know the effort level involved in creating a "custom" tab...

I understand what it is. Unfortunately, the mechanics of d20 are pretty limited. My initial thought was to use a template, but you had already discounted that. I'm not sure you can really do a custom tab. Short of those options, an adjustment might be your best bet.

The Playtest version of Mythic I made used classes and variants for mythic. The fun was learning to take the mythic levels from being counted as levels.

Or you use a template with a counter/tracker as your tier that adds tags to the hero. Then have the mythic abilities be set to turn on when enough tags show up on the hero (ie Custom.MyTeir)

As for adding this into core it would be doubtful or long time from now. We still need to add basic 3.5 frame works first. But getting Pathfinder configurables into d20 would help provide more options.

fair enough. i had a feeling i was asking for something too extreme. I was thinking if something that could be generically done, it would allow for things like the old divine rank system in 3.0/3.5 dieties and demi-gods as well.
