Familiars

Ok so i have been wondering(and don't have a book to look this up) if a DM starts you out with 28 ability points does your Familiar get that as well? In my case my DM made me make a level 13 Toon(character), so i picked a conjurer with a Fire Mephit Familiar and as i was making her i started looking(was using hero lab) and noticed that my Familiar seems kinda weak. Are Familiars supposed to be that weak? If not how can they become stronger? Or is it just me?

Hey Hanzeo, what do you mean by weak? Familars are front line fighters or anything like that. They arent extra characters, like the Eidelon is for the Summoner.

I just didn't know i am still a new player and am trying to get use to the game, they just seemed weak to me stat wise is all.

Oh and what about the other part of my question does my Familiar get the same ability points as i or?

Familiars have a standard progression for attributes, they will increase at the same time that you go up in level. You don't roll or assign points when generating the familiar, just pick the race and Hero Lab will modify the attributes according to the standard rules.

The point of the familiar is more as a scout/helper or role-playing aid than a fighter. It's definitely not something that is meant to be put in combat.
