Create Link - first occurence only
Can we please get a new option only. I game via Fantasy Realms and I created a Game Session category where I post the chat logs for each session so my players can review. This means every character's name is in there dozens of times.
Would love an option to 'Link first occurrence only' as every time I do this, I have to 'Create Link' and then 'Ignore all future links' unless I want to wait a very very long time for RW to link every occurrence of each name. Thanks! |
I know this is something Rob was thinking about. They have encountered the bulk linking issue with official content.

I tend to use links only on their first occurence within a topic or group of snippets, mainly for aesthetic reasons. So, yes, that would help to speed up my work process, too. |
There's a wrinkle to this. Essentially, after the first link, it needs to mark all others as "Ignore". That can have unintended negative side effects like Auto-Accept can. For example, if you have "Roberto", "Roberto's Home", and "Roberto's Car" as Topics, if "Roberto" appears first in the text, the others may be marked as Ignore just as "Accept All" would create links on the partial name "Roberto" in the latter cases, preventing them from being linked.
This would also require logic to recognize that new text is already linked, and to automatically Ignore suggested new links.. which may again prevent new text for "Roberto's Home" and "Roberto's Car" from being linked. |

That does seem to be how the linker works. The linker could be changed to make it handle ignored text better, and it probably should be, which would make this feature possible.
I think it's a good idea. +1 |
OK. What you really want is for the links to BE THERE, but you don't see them. You could switch your global setting or for the current topic to either:
1. Show all links 2. Show first link in a topic but hide subsequent link to the same topics 3. For snippets that are over a screen long, display the first link in that snippet and any link at least a screenful away. 4. Don't show any links But regardless of whether the links are displayed, they are always there. You would always want the ability to, say control click on text that you know (or suspect) has a link to follow the link. The other thing I wish we had is like on a web page where followed links are a different color so you could tell readily what you've visited. You could go in and reset visitation status any time you want for the current topic, one or more selected topics in a navigation pane, or over the entire realm. |
Sounds like this has been implemented in the latest beta. It was certainly a good idea
