Hippogriff Mount Has Wrong Carrying Capacity
 

One of my players is building a Sable Company Marine ranger. He took Monstrous Mount as his 2nd level bonus feat and added the hippogriff, but despite being a large quadruped (x3 carrying capacity, for a max load of 600lbs) it only has the carrying capacity of a bipedal large creature (x2 for a max load of 400lbs). I'm trying to find anything that would explain this but I'm not finding it.

Is it because of being a flying creature? Might be a rule out there about carrying capacity while in flight.

I think there is a rule that you can't fly when you're carrying more than a light load, but that wouldn't change your actual calculated thresholds for each encumbrance tier.
